Yes, it’s true! You can have an awesome wedding without a DJ (despite what you read on the Interwebs)! We lucked out because our venue, Prairie Productions, had an amazing sound system. All we had to do was show-up, plug in our iPod or computer and turn the volume up. Some quick tips we would recommend following:
- Ask someone to be your MC. We asked our very outgoing friend to announce us, introduce special speakers and organize the anniversary dance. Send them directions two weeks before hand and make sure they are comfortable with everything. Our day of wedding coordinator helped with this!
- Ask for song suggestions and fit them in where necessary. People will come to the floor when they hear their song!
- Group your playlist into genres. If someone is on the floor busting a move to an 80’s song, they’ll likely stay on the floor if you play two more too!
- You and your groom/bride should stay on the floor for a majority of the night. If people see you cutting a rug, they’ll follow suit.
We broke our playlist into eight smaller playlists. That way, if our MC heard a pregnant pause he knew that he was supposed to announce something. Our playlists were ordered exactly as follows:
- Cocktail&Dinner
- Announcement Song
- First Dance
- First Dance II (first dances with mom and dad/brother)
- Anniversary Dance
- Reception 1
- GarterandBouquet Toss
- Reception 2
